KOBANÊ – YPG/YPJ fighters joined returning civilians in the newly liberated city of Kobanê to denounce the February 15 plot to capture PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan on its 16th anniversary. Hundreds gathered in the martyr cemetery bearing posters in Kurdish declaring supporting for the jailed leader, flags of the YPG/YPJ and TEV-DEM (the grassroots umbrella political movement in Rojava), as well as posters of Öcalan. The assembled crowd shouted slogans in support of the captured leader, with women noticeably dressed in all black.
Isa Kobanê spoke on behalf of TEV-DEM after one minute of silence to honor the Kobanê martyrs. The attacks against Kobanê were a continuation of the attacks on the Kurdish people seen in the February 15 plot, according to Isa, but these plans had been derailed by the events of Kobanê.
"In Kobanê, it's been proven once more that the movement enabled by Mr. Öcalan's ideology will never be defeated," said Isa.
Mistefa Ito, speaking on behalf of the families of martyrs, said that the forces that won in Kobanê walked in Abdullah Öcalan's path.
