'Özgecan's smiling face will become the flag of rebellion on March 8'

AMED – In Diyarbakir, women gathered outside the courthouse, where hearings are beginning in the case of EmineBörü, murdered by her husband, to say "it's nothing new, enough already."
The Diyarbakir 2nd Criminal Court has opened a case against RamazanBörü under the charge of "manslaughter with intent" for the December 1, 2014 slaying of his wife in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır.Questioning has ended in the case and the first hearing took place on Tuesday, February 17.
The murder suspect explained in his statement to the prosecutor that he got angry when his wife Emine, with whom he was lying in their bedroom, said, "don't hug me." He then took a pistol from the wardrobe and killed her.
The members of the platform "We Will Stop Women Homicides" gathered in front of the courthouse, bearing photographs of ÖzgecanAslan and other slain women. The platform's Diyarbakir representative ElifKarcı stated that 47 percent of women killed in Turkey were killed when they expressed a desire to make a decision about their life.
Calling the case of Özgecan "women's Gezi Park,"Elif said that the smiling faces of women like Emine and Özgecan would be the flags of resistance in Turkey on March 8, International Women's Day.
