ISTANBUL -With the murder of women on the agenda in Turkey after ÖzgecanAslan's murder, the courts have made another decision based on the patriarchal mindset. Suspects were released in the case of NazlıErköseoğlu, found dead in the airshaft of an apartment she was visiting, with the court claiming that Nazlı was not murdered, but committed suicide.

Nazlı Sinem Erköseoglu, 26, had gone to a friend's engagement party the night of her death, rather than to her father's wedding, scheduled for the same night. At the engagement party, she met Can Paksoy. The two drank together and went to EmrePaksoy'sapartment in Beyoğlu later that night. Nazlı'slifeless body was laterfound in the airshaft of the apartment building.

The Istanbul 19th High Criminal Court wrote that "it is difficult to guess the thoughts of someone who relied on her family despite being 26 years old; decided not to go to her father's wedding despite being invited;drank with a man she barely knew and went to his house at 3 a.m." The court also negativelyjudgedNazlıbased on her sexual experiences, and wrote that, "we must consider that she may have committed suicide due to her difficulties in life."
