MERSIN – Suphi Altındöken, killer of 20-year-old student Özgecan Aslan in Mersin province, had beaten his wife Neslihan Altındöken and threatened her and her son with death when she said she wanted a divorce, she says.

Suphi Altındöken, the driver of the minibus that Özgecan boarded the night she was raped and burned to death and the chief suspect in her murder, had "poisoned the life" of Neslihan over the last five years of their marriage with his constant violence. Neslihan says she opened a divorce case against him when she couldn't take it any longer, but retracted it when he threatened her and her son with death.

"God damn him. I want him to get the maximum punishment," she said, commenting on Özgecan's death. "I don't feel sorry for him at all. He took Özgecan's life and ours too."
