ANTALYA –The Education and Science Workers' Union (EğitimSen)announced that it intends to take the lead in pressing charges against Filiz G., assistant principal of an Antalya high school, who called for "teams" of male students to police female students'clothing.

"Girls at this school are wearing mini skirts. I'm going to start a team of male students. First, the male students will warn female students wearing miniskirts. If it continues, the girls will be harassed," said Filiz in a meeting with a teacher at Kepez Atatürk Anatolian High School on September 9th.

The district'sNational Education Director,HüdaiVural, says he cannot comment on whether Filiz made such a statement or not, as the government investigation is continuing.

According toKadirÖztürk, chair of the Antalya branch of EğitimSen, the teachers' union is making its own independent investigation and intends to press charges.

"Ordering male students to harass female students for their mode of dress is a crime," said Kadir. "The goal is to produce more cases like that of Özgecan," the young woman raped and murdered on a minibus in Mersin province.
