IZMIR – The Aliağa Criminal Court of First Instance saw the case of 75 female prisoners who are facing disciplinary charges for opposing practices of strip searching in Şakran Prison.
The women are charged with "harming public property" for holding a demonstration to protest the inhumane conditions in the prison.
The judge delayed the next hearing until June 11, claiming that the courtroom was too small to accommodate the women. The court brought only four women to the courtroom, using teleconferencing to connect to other courtrooms.
An objective hearing will only be possible if the women and witnessescan all be present in the same place, says lawyer Nuri Keserci.
