ISTANBUL – Kübra Kart, 42, who was murdered, cut into pieces and disposed of in a trash container by her husband in the Çengelköy district of Istanbul, was buried in her native village on Thursday.
Kübra's husband of 17 years, Tahir Kart, 43, killed her and divided her body into at least 52 parts, which were discovered in a trash container.
In spite of heavy snow closing the roads, Kübra's family brought her body home to the village of Cemaller, in the Ereğli District, near Zonguldak in the Black Sea region of Turkey. Her mother Ayşe Efe, 69, embraced the coffin at the closed-casket funeral, crying out "my daughter, where are you leaving me to go?"
Two years earlier, Tahir Kart had drawn a knife on Kübra in front of her mother Ayşe, threatening to kill her. Those close to her say Kübra was scared to contact the police because of Tahir's threats against her life.
Kübra's brother, Hüseyin Efe, expressed the family's pain on being told recently that although the 52 pieces of Kübra's body found in the container are now in the family's hands, the refrigerator in the Kart home is reportedly still full of pieces of unidentified flesh. He said the family wants the material in the refrigerator analyzed.
"We simply have no words left," he said.
