World March of Women releases program of events for March 8

JINHA


NEWS CENTER -The World March of Women, which is kicking off its fourth international action this year across the border from Rojava in Nusaybin, has announced a program of events from March 6 to March 18, starting in Kurdistan, passing through southern and western Turkey and ending in Greece.


Nusaybin-Mardin


The opening of the World March of Women will take place Friday, March 6 at 9 a.m. in Nusaybin, with forums from 10-12 a.m. titled "Democratic Autonomy, Women’s Revolution of Rojava" and "Appropriation of Nature and Ecological Struggles." Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. public forums will take place on "Jineoloji and All Forms of Violence Against Women" and "Women's Work" (involving a delegation visiting a refugee camp). At 6 p.m. the program of the day will end with music from MizginTahir.


On March 7, women from the Northern Kurdistan side of the border will come together with those from Cizîre Canton in Rojava at 9 a.m. After the cross-border rally, the group will travel to Mardin, where a march will take place at 4:30 p.m. The evening program at 6 p.m. involves a dance and musical performance.


Diyarbakir


The World March of Women will move on to Diyarbakir on March 8 for a rally at 11 a.m. Women will meet for dinner at Cigerxwin Culture Center at 5:30 p.m, followed by a dance performance and painting exhibition on the theme of "Women's Work and Mystery." On March 9, women will continue their activities with 11 a.m. activities to protect the Tigris river valley.


Antakya


The march will move on to Antakya on March 10 for a breakfast in tents at Sevgi Resistance Park. Women will visit the St. Pierre Church and Mosaic Museum during the day. At 3 p.m. there will be a forum and rally on peace, ending with a concert.


Women will head to Mersin, where they will have breakfast at 8 a.m. on March 11. At 10 a.m., women will visit the graves of murdered women LeylaŞaylemez (killed in Paris) and ÖzgecanAslan (recently raped and killed). They will visit Özgecan's family at 12 p.m.


Antalya


On March 12, the march is in Antalya, where recent municipal policies amount to increasing apartheid for women. Starting with breakfast and sharing of experiences with villagers in Ahmetler Village at 8 a.m., women will next attend an open-air exhibition on "Women's Daily Life in the City" at Cumhuriyet Square. At 2 p.m. women will hold a joint press conference with the women fired unjustly by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. At 6 p.m. a panel on "Women and the City" is planned.


On March 13, there will be a press conference in the morning related to the Women's Beach and Konyaaltıseafront project. In the afternoon, marchers will visit the Alyazma monument and castle. There will be an evening carnival to round out the Antalya program.


Muğla


Women will reach Muğla at 8 a.m. for an experience sharing session with those involved in the ecological struggle for İztuzu Beach, in Dalyan, which is facing privatization. At 1 p.m. a march to Sınırsızlık(Borderless) Square will end with the hanging of a plaque commemorating the march's passing through the space. The women will march next to the Old Bus Terminal for an open-air market with a speaker's corner and public forum, to which Vandana Shiva has been invited.


The march will head for Didim after dinner. On March 15 in Didim, at 11 a.m. women will march from the DidimCemevi (Alevi house of worship) to the March 8th Working Woman's Park for a tree planting. There will next be a visit to the Temple of Artemis and Virgin Mary Church.


Izmir


The marchers will reach Izmir the same day for workshops at 3 p.m. At 6 p.m. they will march to Gündoğdu Square, after being accompanied by groups of women on bicycles. At 7:30 p.m. there will be a concert at the square and dinner on the ground. On March 16, Monday, the march will visit the Gaziemir neighborhood where nuclear waste has been deposited. At 1 p.m. there will be a picnic in SelçukGökçealan village. At 3:30 p.m., after a visit to  Şirince, the march will head for Thessaloniki.


Greece


On March 17, women will meet with a caravan of women at Aristotelous Square in Thessaloniki. They will hold a joint press conference with the cleaning workers laid off by the Greek Finance Ministry.The press conference will be followed by a march and women's solidarity meal.


The Thessaloniki program continues at 11 a.m. on March 18 with a press conference on "Actions in Turkey, Crisis, and the Issues of Women in Resistance." Women will have a meeting to discuss future joint actions and cooperation. At 7 p.m., there will be a forum on social movements in Thessaloniki.


The women will next pass to Edessa, where they will first visit Vergina. There will be a meeting hosted by the Edessa Women's Initiative, also attended by women workers from Naoussa textile factories. There will be an action in Edessa.
