AMED – In the city of Amed, the second stop on the World March of Women, FilizKızılay of the march's Kurdistan organizing body says the city's women have worked around the clock to prepare for guests and to ready the city for March 8, International Women's Day.

After the World March of Women starts in the border town of Nisêbîn on March 6, the women of the march will travel to Amed for a massive 11 a.m. rally on the day of the international holiday to honor working women. After the rally in İstasyon Square, women will head to Cegerxwin Culture Center for a dinner, dance performance and women's painting exhibition.

The Congress of Free Women (KJA) has prepared housing for the women, who will be coming from Europe, the Americas and elsewhere.

Filiz says grassroots organizations of the women's movement have been driving preparations for the event. Posters and billboards are up around the city advertising the event, and local women's neighborhood parliaments have spread the world. 250 women will provide security for the event.

"This shows us the spirit of Kobanê and Rojava here in Amed," said Filiz, referring to the key role of women's defense units in the defense of the revolution.

The day after the march, women will attend an 11 a.m. event to protect the Tigris River valley, including at tree planting and an announcement about the efforts to bring UNESCO status to the city's ancient green space, the Hevsel Gardens; KeçiBurcu tower; and the ancient city walls of Diyarbakır.

"We're expecting high attendance this year, with the resistance in Kobanê coinciding with March 8," said Filiz. "I'm calling on all women to bring that spirit of resistance into the streets on March 8."
