MERSIN – Pınar Özer (ŞinSemsur), a YPJ fighter who lost her life in the effort to liberate Kobanê's villages from Daesh, was interred in a ceremony attended by thousands.

Pınar lost her life in clashes with Daesh gangs occupying the villages of Bexdik and Îdaniye. The Kurdish neighborhood of Çay, in the Akdeniz region of Mersin province, was completely closed down for Pınar's funeral. Shops were closed.

After a funeral prayer at the Hz. Ömer Mosque, YAKAY-DER, an association that supports the families of missing persons, led the funeral convoy to the Güneykent Cemetery. Women bore her coffin on their shoulders in the funeral procession.

The thousands marching in her funeral procession chanted slogans damning Daesh. They bore posters of Pınar and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, as well as flags of the PKK and the YPG/YPJ. They chanted the Kurdish slogans "martyrs never die" and "woman, life freedom."

There was a moment of silence after Pınar's coffin was lowered into the ground, honoring all who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy. A tent has been set up outside Pınar's family's house for guests to wish their condolences.
