DÊRIK – Rose Roşe, a member of the YPJ coordinating body, says fighters in Kobanê showed the world the power of women's resistance. With women across the world taking to the streets for March 8, International Working Women's Day, Rose says this year, women's rebellion is taking off in earnest, with the Rojava revolution at the forefront.

"With our struggle, we destroyed the mindset that says 'women can't do politics, women can't fight,'" Rose said of the experience in Kobanê. "A new history was written. It was written with the blood of our comrades, men and women."

"The Kobanê resistance had an impact in all four parts of Kurdistan," said Rose. Kurdish women proved themselves in the resistance and destroyed international imperialist forces' plans in the region.Furthermore, the city's heroic resistance drew Assyrian, Arab, Syriac and Turkish women to the frontlines, whosaw in the resistance of Kurdish women the path to their own liberation.

"As women, we played our role in the resistance," according to Rose. "Comrade Arîn's practice is the most concrete form of this," a reference to Arîn Mîrxan, the YPJ fighter who sacrificed herself in a crucial turning point in the struggle to reclaim the city from occupying Daesh forces.

"For us every day is March 8, every day is resistance," said Rose. She said in the Rojava revolution, women's spirits and voices have become central to everyday life.

"Women are rebelling. Women are saying 'enough already' to cruelty. On March 8, I want to send my best wishes to all the women of the world, especially our woman comrades posted right now," Rose said.

"In the resistance, some of our friends blew themselves up in order not to fall into enemy hands, some became martyrs by the bullet. In Shengal, 40 Êzîdî women held hands and jumped off a cliff together to stay out of Daesh's hands. We will never forget this. And we'll resist to the end."
