European socialist women reach Suruç

RIHA – A European delegation of socialist women arrived in Suruç yesterday to celebrate March 8, International Women's Day and to build solidarity with Kobanê. The delegation traveled to Suruç yesterday, with some visiting Kobanê.Today, they will travel to Nusaybin for the World March of Women starting there.


The delegation began their visit to Suruç, where many Kobanê residents fled after being forced to leave their homes by Daesh attacks, by delivering medicine and clothing to the Rojava Aid and Solidarity Association.


Sultan Şahin said friends in French women's associations were planning to come to Nusaybin for the celebrations, which she sees as a meaningful and important step in women's solidarity, but the socialist women wanted to come a day early in order to visit Suruç.


"We visited the tents and villages here. We wanted to learn from them," she explained. "We came here with the conviction that bringing our energy together with theirs will mutually strengthen the women's movement." Sultan said everyone who can should come to Suruç.


"We're going to go to Kobanê. I'm really excited to set foot on ground that was walked by our comrades who were martyred."


Four women from the group traveled to Kobanê, including Italian women and Nuran Ağırnaslı, the mother of fallen MLKP (Marxist-Leninist Communist Party) fighter Suphi Nejat Ağırnaslı.
