MÊRDÎN – Yesterday women carried the body of Ivana Hoffman, the internationalist MLKP fighter who lost her life in Rojava, from Qamişlo (in Rojava) to Nusaybin (in Northern Kurdistan).
Ivana Hoffman (nom de guerre Avaşîn Têkoşîn Güneş) lost her life in a clash with Daesh near Til Temir. Today, her family and friends came to Mardin to receive her coffin. They traveled to the Nusaybin border gate along with the family of Oğuz Saruhan, an MLKP fighter who lost his life in Kobanê.
The families were accompanied by representatives from the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the organization MEYA-DER, which works in solidarity with families of those who lost their lives in war in Mesopotamia.
YPG/YPJ and MLKP fighters bore the coffin from Dêrik to the border town of Qamişlo, in Rojava, where fighters held a military ceremony. At the border gate, border guards initially refused passage, saying they needed official documents. After a long debate, in which HDP MPs met with the provincial governor, Ivana's coffin was able to cross the border, borne on the shoulders of women.
The people of Nusaybin have planned a public ceremony to honor in Ivana, to be held in the city's Newroz celebration area.
