ANTALYA – The World March of Women left behind its fifth stop, Antalya, yesterday evening. Women visited the Alyazma Monument to murdered women in the afternoon and took to the city streets in a joyous carnival at night.
After visiting the seaside in the morning, the women headed for the Monument, built by women on March 7, 2012 to remember 476 women murdered by women.
The women toured the historical sites of Antalya's castle and headed for AydınKanzaPark, in the Muratpaşa area. They marched to Cumhuriyet Square, shouting slogans against male violence and in favor of women's solidarity. They marched to songs by Ajda Pekkan and Bandista.
"In our country, there is an unspoken war against women waged by the state. Women are devalued. Religious, traditional and cultural discourses all wage violence against women," said ÖzlemYavuz of the Antalya Women's Platform.
The women danced to songs in Kurdish, Turkish and the Homshetsi dialect of Armenian, turning the streets into a carnival.
The March's next stop will be the city of Muğla.
