RIHA - The district of Suruç is preparing for one of the most historical Newroz celebrations in its history at the Kobanê border on Tuesday.

The Canton of Kobanê will greet spring with a historic Newroz, to be celebrated simultaneously at the both sides of the borderline. After the YPG/YPJ responded to the attacks of Daesh gangs with a Leningrad-like resistance, the canton has joyfully embraced liberation. Meanwhile, just north of the border in Suruç, with hundreds thousands of people expected to join in the celebrations in the village of Etmanek, preparations are continuing nonstop.

Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and Party of Democratic Regions (DBP) co-presidents, HDP MPs, regional co-mayors, dozens of foreign delegations and thousands of guests will participate in the historical Newroz in the village square of Etmaneka Biçuk (Küçük Kendirci). Organizers have been setting up a media area, security, toilets and a stage in the square since the morning hours.

Organizing Committee member İlyas Bozkurt gave details on the preparations.

"The square has a capacity to host at least 300,000 people. Also, a total of one thousand people, including 500 working security, will undertake various duties on Newroz day," said İlyas. "We have arranged 50 minibuses to carry guests from the district center to the square for Newroz. In case of anyproblems, citizens can come to the safety tents. We are ready to embrace our people."

Meanwhile, the entire districthas been decorated with the banners and colors of Newroz. Announcement vehicles are touring the region, inviting the people to take part in the celebrations over loudspeakers. Thousands of leaflets have also been distributed in the various districts of Urfa province. The HDP, DBP and municipality buildings have been decorated with red, green and yellow balloons and Newroz signs.

Suruç is ready for a historical Newroz overlooking the castle of resistance, Kobanê.
