RIHA- Hundreds thousands of people from all over Kurdistan flocked toSuruç for Newroz celebrations. The celebration is taking place just across the border from Kobanê, the site of a historic resistance against Daesh gangs over the last six months.

Hundreds thousands of people packed the Newroz square. The ceremony kicked off with one minute of silence in memory of all those who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy and freedom.

While the celebrations of Newroz began on the Northern Kurdish side, citizens in Kobanê lit the fire of Newrozat various points across the border. Thousands of Kobanê residents flocked to KaniyaKurda Hill, on the border, and saluted the massive crowds at Suruç.

The crowds carried posters of PKK Leader Leader Abdullah Öcalan, pioneeringPKK leaders and YPG/YPJ fighters fallen in Kobanê. Revelers packed the square, which was decorated with the flags of the PKK, YPG and YPJ.

Firstly, KomaWelatêRojê and a minor musical group from Rojava took the stage in the celebrations. Masses of people danced traditional Kurdish folk dances and chanted slogans demanding freedom for PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Hozan Comert took the stage just as theNewroz fire was lighted in Kobanê. Democratic Society Congree(DTK) General Co-chair Selma Irmak, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) General Co-chair FigenYüksekdağ, Kobanê Canton Co-president EnverMüslim and HDPdeputies are among the participants in the ongoing celebrations.

The celebrations are continuing with speeches from the representatives.
