RIHA – Musical artist Zelal Gökçe has been detained in Urfa.

Turkish police have taken the artist and singer Zelal Gökçe, a member of the Mesopotamia Culture Center (MKM), into custody at a hotel in Urfa province. She has been brought to the police headquarters in the city. Zelal will be taken to court within the next few hours.

Zelal performed at the Newroz celebrations in the town of Suruç Tuesday for a crowd of hundreds of thousands. Yesterday's celebrations were the first Newroz celebrations to start in Northern Kurdistan.
