KOBANÊ – Kobanê Newroz celebrations have begun. YPG/YPJ fighters lit the first fire in a rural area just west of the city, where asayiş (public security forces) have taken intense security measures in the wake of Daesh's threats to disrupt Newroz celebrations.

The celebration has been blanketed with flags of the YPG, YPJ, PYD, TEVDEM and photographs of YPG/YPJ/MLKP fighters martyred in the battle against the ISIS.

Kobanê residents are flocking to the celebration, where YPG/YPJ fighters have lit the first fire of Newroz. Kobanê Canton President Enver Muslîm, People's Assembly Co-President Ayşe Efendi, canton executives, PYD and TEVDEM officials are also attending the celebration.

The people of Kobanê have been dancing traditional dances at the celebration since this morning.
