AMÛDÊ – Nezire Gevriye, co-chair of Rojava's Legislative Assembly, says Ivana Hoffman "will always be an example of the struggle for freedom" for the people of Rojava.
Ivana Hoffman, the German-Togolese internationalist communist fighter who lost her life defending the Rojava revolution in Til Hemis, has become a hero for women across Rojava.
"Ivana was an internationalist revolutionary, fighting back against Daesh's chauvinist ideas," said Nezire. "She lives in our hearts in immortality. We are here today thanks to the heroic sacrifices of martyrs like her."
Nezire noted that Ivana was a woman with African roots, coming from Europe to defend the Rojava revolution.
"Ivana knew that the Daesh gangs were not just a threat to Rojava, but to the entire world. She thought of Daesh as a cancer threatening the entire world," she said. Ivana was a woman conscious of the historical dynamics and of the women's revolution in Rojava, and that was what brought her to the revolution, said Nezire.
