HASEKÊ – The number of lives lost in the Daesh bombing on Newroz celebrations in Hasekê (Hassakah) has now risen to 42. 37 victims' identities are unknown. The majority are women and children.

The two separate bomb attacks on Newroz celebrations in the Muftî neighborhood of the city, which is located in Rojava's Cizîrê Canton, took place at 6 p.m. last night.

The general coordinating body of the three Rojava Cantons (Cizîrê, Kobanê and Efrîn) called for people to call off Newroz celebrations in a number of cities today in the wake of the bombing.

"The Daesh gangs have realized a barbaric attack on civilians, most of them women and children," the coordinating body said in a statement. "They have displayed their rancor towards all human values. In this attack, which gangs planned in the wake of their defeat on the military fronts in Kobanê, Til Hemîs and Til Berak, dozens of civilians have been martyred and hundreds have been wounded."

The Cizîre Canton has announced three days of mourning for the massacre.
