NEWS CENTER – Yekîtiya Star, the grassroots women's movement in Rojava, and KJK, the coordinating body of Kurdish women fighters, have condemned the attack on civilians celebrating Newroz in Hesekê (Hassakah) yesterday.

Two separate bomb attacks on Newroz celebrations in the Muftî neighborhood of the city of Hesekê, which is located in Rojava's Cizîrê Canton, took place at 6 p.m. last night. Hundreds of civilians have been wounded and 42 have lost their lives. Most of the victims were women and children, say Rojava inter-canton coordinating officials.

Yekîtiya Star, the umbrella grassroots women's movement in Rojava, said that struggling in the path of resistance blazed by Arîn Mîrxan was the way to call the Daesh gangs to account for the attack.

"The thousands of Kurdish women and songs fighting now on the front will make the Daesh gangs pay in kind and give the real response," said Yekîtiya Star. The organization noted that the attack came in the wake of YPG/YPJ victories at Kobanê, Til Hemîs and Til Berak. They called the attack the cowardly response of those who could not stomach the victory of the Kurdish people.

The KJK called on all women and Kurdish people to escalate the struggle for self-defense in the face of the attacks. They condemned the attacks and said they showed the "dark face" of the Daesh gangs who could not bear to see the Kurdish people's victory this Newroz—a spring day of resuscitation pregnant with victory.

"This people knows how to call them to account for this brutal attack," said the statement, "because they have never before bowed their heads in the face of cruelty and have always stood strong against injustice on behalf of humanity. To think that these kinds of attacks will break the will of the people is a pitiful position of those who don't know this people's history of resistance."

The statement called on all women and Kurdish people to escalate the struggle for self-defense and said the KJK will stand beside the people of Rojava no matter what.
