ANKARA – 69 articles of the controversial "Internal Security Law" have been passed into law by Turkey's Parliament.

After serious public opposition to the bill, known as the "Internal Security Law," its authors have changed its name to the "Draft Law Related to Changes in Some Laws and Legal Provisions Related to Police Duties and Powers." A vote of Turkey's Parliament voted 69 articles into law today. They are expected to receive President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's signature shortly.

After controversy, including a sit-in by members of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in which AKP Parliamentarians attacked the opposition MPs, the ruling AKP moved on March 12 for some articles to be sent back to committee.
