EFRÎN – After delaying Newroz celebrations after a period of mourning for those lost in the HesekêNewroz massacre, YPG/YPJ fighters held a solemn Newroz celebration yesterday.

Hundreds of YPG/YPJ fighters and commanders gathered the Bilbilê region of Efrîn Canton for a military ceremony to mark the Kurdish holiday. After Daesh attacked Newroz celebrations in the city of Hesekê killed 43, the people of Rojava mourned the attacks and delayed Newroz celebrations, scheduled to take place a week ago.

They started with a moment of silence in honor of those who have lost their lives in the struggle for democracy.

After the ceremony, culture workers from the grassroots Rojava arts and culture organization Tev-Çand performed music and theater. YPG/YPJ fighters danced traditional dances.
