Peace process delegation meets with Nechirvan Barzani

HEWLER – Two members of the opposition HDP party delegation meeting with Abdullah Öcalan traveled to Hewler (Erbil) to meet with Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government.


Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Leyla Zana, who serve in the Turkish Parliament with the opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), are both members of the delegation traveling to the İmralı Island prison where the Turkish state has held PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan for the last 16 years. Nilüfer Koç, of the Kurdish National Congress (KNK), joined the delegation for the meeting this morning.


PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan recently composed letters to both Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region and leader of the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party), and Jalal Talabani, of the PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) party.


Nilüfer said the meeting with Nechirvan Barzaniwent well. The Prime Minister said that Southern Kurdish politicians have been working to contribute to the peace process in Turkey, the revolution in Rojava and the project of organizing a Kurdish national congress.


After the meeting with Nechirvan Barzani, the delegation set out for Sulaimaniyah to meet with Jalal Talabani. They will return to Erbil after the trip to Sulaimaniyah.
