Two women arrested in Istanbul at protest for slain hostage-takers

ISTANBUL – Two women have been arrested in a demonstration outside the Istanbul Forensic Medical Institute, where the DHKC fighters killed in the hostage operation last night were taken for examination.


Protestors gathered outside the Forensic Medical Institute, where slain DHKC (Revolutionary People's Liberation Front) members ŞafakYayla and BahtiyarDoğruyol are being examined, this morning. Women bore signs that read "the people's fighters demanding justice for Berkin are immortal." Police quickly set up a blockade around the building and arrested two women protestors.


In Ankara, protestorsheld a sit-in on Yüksel Avenue. They lit a fire and bore signs saying "long live the justice of the people," among other slogans. Police attacked the protest. Clashes spread into the neighboring streets, with police conducting ID checks on all passersby in the neighborhood.


Police also physically attacked AyşegülGümüşkaya, a woman and reporter for Yol TV.
