SULAYMANIYAH – Southern Kurdish women gathered in the town of Derbendixan, in Southern Kurdistan, to protest the politics of femicide being realized against them, with two femicides in the area in the last week.

The women marched from the city's market to the Derbendixan parliamentary representation building to demand that the Sulaymaniyah governorship and legal organs take action against the increasing violence against women. In one week, women have been slain in the towns of Derbendixan and Şerezur, both near Sulaymaniyah.

The women, organized by secular and Islamic women's organizations, shouted the Kurdish slogans "woman, life, freedom" and "women are life, don't kill life" to protest the killing of women.

The women also noted that women needed living spaces where they could live freely and safely. They called for the development of women's self-defense and for protection provisions for threatened women.
