ANKARA – The Turkish government shut down Facebook, Twitter and YouTube yesterday afternoon, giving no reason for the sudden crackdown on social media.

People of Turkey found themselves unable to access the three largest social media networks yesterday afternoon, after a chief prosecutor issued an order to major ISPs. The government has not yet disclosed the reason for the crackdown.

Spring months often see social network shutdowns in Turkey, with Twitter and YouTube also blocked on March 20 and March 27 of last year.
