NEWS CENTER – A group of Êzîdîs, mostly children, held captive by Daesh reached Kurdish forces in an area near Shengal yesterday. Clashes broke out between Kurdish forces and Daesh during the escape.

After a group of 216 Êzîdîs were successfully released from Daesh captivity on Wednesday, a group of 31 more Êzîdîs, 27 of them children, have reached safety yesterday.

When Daesh attacked the Êzîdî city of Shengal in August, they captured around 7,000 women and children, after brutally slaughtering many men. The captives have been held for the last eight months in conditions known from escaped captives' narratives to be extremely violent.

The group of mostly children escaped from Daesh captivity in Tel Afer by their own devices, then reached Kurdish forces in the village of Herdani, near Shengal. Peshmerges transporting the escaped Êzîdî prisoners to safety with the local Kurdish forces entered a short clash with Daesh gangs while transporting them, but they have now reached the village.
