QAMIŞLO – Assyrian and Syriac people of the Rojava city of Qamişlo gathered yesterday at Safo Church to celebrate the Easter holiday yesterday

The church, in the Xerbî neighborhood of the city, hosted a celebration of Easter yesterday. Local residents decorated the neighborhood for the holiday. Assyrians and Syriacs gathered in their regional clothes.

"We want peace and safety for the world," said Nesrinİlyas, an Assyrian woman at the ceremony. "For us to celebrate this day is a thing of honor. As the Assyrian people, we are the oldest people living in this place. The rebirth of Jesus means, for us, the rebirth of love and morality within people."

The self-defense group the Sotor Army also attended the ceremony, promising to continue to defend the people from Daesh. They wished their condolences to the families of fighters lost in the self-defense struggle.
