Shengal resistance celebrates Çarşema Sor spring holiday

ŞENGAL – The General Command of the Êzidî and women's resistance units on Mt. Shengal (YBŞ and YPJ) wished a happy Çarşema Sor to all Êzidî people, saying this year's festival marks the liberation of the mountain, a holy site for Êzidîs.

The Êzidî holiday of Çarşema Sor, a New Year's celebration that represents the birth of the universe and that the statement said is the most sacred festival of the Êzidî people, took place yesterday.

The statement recalled the attacks of the Daesh gangs on Shengal on August 3 and the displacement of thousands of people. They said that this year, Çarşema Sor festival, the New Year of the Êzidî people, was celebrated on Mount Shengal with the spirit of resistance. The statement called on all Êzidîs to struggle to reclaim their lands, culture and faith.

In the months since Daesh raided and massacred Shengal, abducting over 7,000 Êzidîs, mostly women, the Êzidî and women's self-defense forces YBŞ and YPJ have been contesting the Shengal area and working to clear it of occupying Daesh gang members.

YBŞ and YPJ Shengal recalled that the Êzidi people have always lived in their lands with their own culture and faith, but have always been attacked and exposed to the repression of the imperialist powers and their collaborators in the Middle East, adding that the Êzidi people have always resisted this repression and cruelty and massacres.

The forces promised to liberate Shengal entirely from Daesh occupation.
