NEWS CENTER – The European Parliament officially adopted a resolution on the Armenian genocide yesterday, calling for Turkey to recognize the genocide on its hundredth anniversary.
The European Parliament noted the hundredth anniversary of the 1915 genocide, in which the Turkish army led the systematic slaughter of 1.5 million Armenians, as a genocide against the Armenian people and called on Turkey to open its archives and to recognize the genocide. The European Parliament first officially recognized the events of 1915 as genocide in 1987.
President Erdoğan already made statements about the resolution before it passed, saying that “Whatever decision the European Parliament takes on Armenian genocide claims, it will go in one ear and out the other because it is not possible for Turkey to accept such a crime, such a sin.”
April 24th will mark the 100th anniversary of the genocide.
