NEWS CENTER – In another of the disasters that have reached the point of a massacre of migrants in the first months of 2015 in Europe, a train struck and killed fourteen migrants in Macedonia yesterday evening as they tried to reach Europe by the overland route.
According to Ivo Kotevski, speaker for the Macedonia Ministry of Internal Affairs, the groups of migrants were believed to have numbered around 30-40. Authorities have detained eight migrants who did not succeed in fleeing the scene after the Belgrade-bound international train truck the group.
Migrants taking this overland route, fleeing war and oppression to try to reach Europe, generally follow the train line to read the Serbian border village of Loyane, according to local sources. Migrants generally travel at night to avoid capture, making sleeplessness (as well as hunger) a problem for the migrants. Their journey through Macedonia often takes 3-5 days.
