NEWS CENTER – Zainab Hawa Bangura, UN special envoy on sexual violence in conflict, has arrived in Duhok in the Federal Kurdistan Region to observe the condition of Êzidî women who have escaped from Daesh.
Daesh slew uncounted Êzidî citizens and captured thousands of women in children in an attack on the Êzidî city of Shengal in August. According to news website Rojnews, the UN special envoy will be reporting to the UN on the condition of the approximately 600 women who have since escaped from Daesh captivity. Many of them live in the Federal Kurdistan Region. This visit is part of Zainab Hawa Bangura’s first visit to the Middle East as the special envoy.
“My goal is to be able to help the rescued women in every way necessary,” said Zainab.
