NEWS CENTER – 25-year-old political prisoner Qadriyeh Qadiri has entered the 8th day of her hunger strike in Iran’s Yasuj Prison. Qadriye is on hunger strike for improved conditions.
Qadriyeh was arrested in May 2011 in the Eastern Kurdish city of Urmia, where she was imprisoned at intelligence headquarters for more than two months, according to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN). The Iranian Revolutionary Court sentenced Qadri to ten years (later reduced to seven), for alleged membership in the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Qadriyeh is on hunger strike because she has been placed in the barracks with criminal prisoners and denied permission to see her family. The courts initially imprisoned Qadriyeh in Urmia, near her family, but then transferred her to Yasuj prison.
Qadriyeh is currently suffering health problems including numbness in one hand, ear infections, and severe headaches.
