ÊLIH – Thousands of workers have gathered in the city of Batman, the center for celebrations of May 1 in Northern Kurdistan.

Workers, union members, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) activists and more boarded hundreds of buses this morning in the provinces of Diyarbakır, Şırnak, Mardin, Siirt, Hakkari and Van to hit the road for Batman, the center for the celebrations of International Workers' Day in Northern Kurdistan.

Workers flooded six roads leading to a central intersection in the city, chanting May Day slogans and bearing signs calling for the democratic solution of the Kurdish problem and the redistribution of wealth in the country—including the oil wealth that is the center of Batman's oil industry.
