ANKARA – The LGBTI community took to the streets in Ankara to protest hate crimes and murders of trans people in Turkey and to demand the constitutional recognition of their equality.
The Ankara LGBTI Initiative gathered at the Yüksel Avenue Monument to Humanity yesterday, carrying signs reading "stop transphobic attacks!"
"There has been no legal protection or measure against the homophobic and transphobic attacks that have happened time and again, and the perpetrators have not been found," said Demhat Aksoy, speaking at the rally. "Those who are caught are excused with reductions in their sentences."
