NEWS – 50,000 flooded the city square in the eastern province of Muş, Turkey yesterday to hear Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-general chair Figen Yüksekdağ speak at a massive election campaign rally.
Figen said that the AKP "got their first lesson in Kobanê and they will get their second one on June 7th," referring to the upcoming general election in Turkey. On June 7th, the HDP hopes to stop the AKP's plans to transform Turkey's political system by passing the high 10% electoral threshold
The mostly Kurdish people of Muş had protested Turkey's AKP President Ahmet Davutoğlu when he came for a rally May 6th. The locals turned their backs to him while his convoy was passing at the road.
Figen commented on President Erdoğan's recent tours of the country, including Kurdish cities like Batman, where he held "opening ceremonies" that turned out to be excuses for stump speeches. Referring to the AKP's grandiose claims to have elevated Turkey's world standing, Figen noted that the three categories that the AKP had made Turkey first in were workplace massacres, femicide and self-promotion.
Figen promised that the HDP's three Muş MPs (Burcu Çelik Özkan, Ahmet Yıldırım and Mensur Işık) would beautify the Parliament.
