NEWS CENTER – One year after 301 miners lost their lives in the Soma mine disaster in Turkey's Aegean Manisa province, workers and unions are gathering across Turkey to honor the victims of the disaster, which victim's families say was caused by the ruling AKP's neglect of safety measures.
There will be memorial ceremonies, marches and actions calling for justice in 22 provinces in Turkey today, organized by unions and professional associations. The small town of Soma itself will hold a memorial ceremony and visit the miners' graves today, with a large rally planned for this Saturday. Union confederations DİSK and KESK, engineers and architects association TMMOB and physicians' association TTB will be hosting the actions today.
Meanwhile, members of the Halkevleri association will kick off a three-day march from Istanbul to Soma.
