Police sexually assault Istanbul students under custody

ISTANBUL – Istanbul students arrested for taking part in a commemoration ceremony for revolutionary martyrs killed in May were sexually assaulted and tortured under custody, it has emerged.
The students of Istanbul University gathered for a commemoration action for revolutionary leaders killed in May this Monday. The students tried to hang placards inside the campus, but Turkish police attacked the group and detained eleven of the students. The women students were sexually molested and insulted by police, along with being beaten, hit with batons and kicked.
Human Rights Association (İHD) member lawyer Gülizar Tuncer met the students and said all the students were battered under custody, with some being thrown down stairs. One of the students, Anıl Can Tuncer, was hospitalized for wounds issued by the police chief.
The students will be seen in the Istanbul Courthouse.
