SERÊKANIYÊ – With YPJ/YPG forces taking the Daesh center of Mt. Abd al-Aziz in Rojava, women of Serêkaniyê say they are relieved to see Daesh pushed back and the historic mountain liberated from occupation.

Since May 6, YPJ/YPG forces have been pushing Daesh gangs back in Cizîrê Canton of Rojava in an operation they have named after YPG Commander Rubar Qamişlo. The center of Daesh attacks in the canton and a major target in the operation was Mt. Abd al-Aziz (Kezwan in Kurdish). Recently, YPJ/YPG forces announced that they had completely removed gangs from the mountain.Local Bedia Mistefa said the mountain is not just strategic, but of great symbolic significance for Kurds, who have dreamed of being able to liberate the mountain.

Serêkaniyê resident Bedriya Brahim has lost two children in the war. Kurds like Bedriya have paid heavily for the right to live a dignified life in the face of genocidal attacks, she said. "And this is why no force can eliminate us."

Bedriya noted that Arabs in the region were not originally convinced that YPG/YPJ forces would succeed in the effort to protect all groups in the region.

"But they have seen that [the YPG/YPJ] is not just defending the Kurds, but all peoples," said Bedriya.
