NEWS CENTER – Social media users have organized a call for a boycott of United Airlines in support of Muslim woman Tahera Ahmad, subjected to discrimination on a United Airlines flight.
Tahera Ahmad, a chaplain at Northwestern University, posted on Friday about the Islamophobic discrimination she experienced on a United Airlines flight. Tahera related that a flight attendant refused to give her an unopened can of Diet Coke, claiming that unopened cans could be used as "weapons"—then handed an unopened beer to the man sitting next to her. When Tahera complained that the treatment was openly discriminatory and Islamophobic, other passengers verbally attacked her.
The social media campaign #unitedfortahera has launched to support Tahera, calling for a boycott of United. United has issued an evasive statement claiming to be investigating the incident.
