AMED – The DTK Health Assembly in Diyarbakır has announced fully updated figures on the casualties and injuries from yesterday's bomb attacks on an HDP rally in the city. Four have died in the attack and 416 people are wounded.
DTK (Democratic Society Congress) Health Assembly member Saliha Aydeniz has announced the figures of casualties from yesterday's twin bomb attacks at a HDP rally in Diyarbakır. “In spite of everything, peace will prevail," said Saliha, condemning the attack.
Four people have died in the attack, one of them from a fall in the course of bombing. 416 others are wounded and currently being treated in various hospitals across the city. 12 people have lost their legs, eight are dependent on respiratory equipment, 35 are held in burn units and 22 others are in intensive care.
Saliha stated that there was severe inadequacy in the state's emergency response services yesterday—more than in any other recent rally. Despite the fact that rally organizers had called for ambulances to be on call, as is standard for all large rallies in the city, the state's emergency telephone service made no such preparations. "Because ambulances arrived late and police used tear gas, there was a loss of time and this in turn caused deaths," said Saliha.
She added that DTK will release a detailed statement about the casualties in the coming hours.
