AMED -The Peace Mothers Assembly has denounced recent attempts to create a state of violence in Diyarbakır that have come in the wake of the HDP's election victory.

Since the assassination of Aytaç Baran (the leader of an association known for links to far right Islamic party Hüda-Par) in Diyarbakır on Tuesday, armed groups have launched several attacks in the city. Civilians fear that contra groups are attempting to incite armed battle between Hüda-Par supporters and groups associated with the Kurdish movement.

"As mothers, we are calling on all groups to refuse to play the AKP's game," Peace Mother Havva Kıran said in a statement on behalf of the group. The Peace Mothers is a group of women who have lost children to war in Kurdistan and work for peace and justice in the region. Recent events in Diyarbakır, Havva said, are a continuation of the long string of attacks targeting the HDP.

"All these attacks have happened before the eyes of soldiers and police," she said. "These are planned provocations. Let us not engage them; let us remain calm.

"We're all people from the same lands. We all share the same pain," she said, echoing widespread calls for calm.
