MUĞLA – Women in the province of Muğla, Turkey are planning a massive march against femicide in the wake of the killing of 18-year-old Cansu Kaya.
Cansu worked as a waiter at a restaurant in the town of Ortaca. Four days ago, she left work. Her mother and sister, unable to reach Cansu by telephone, started a search for her. Her older sister Burcu found Cansu's body in a water canal. The autopsy has shown that Cansu was sexually assaulted and choked to death. Her body was kept in a refrigerator for two days and then thrown into a canal.
Women planned several marches for Cansu yesterday evening in different parts of Turkey. Women's groups in Muğla are now planning a massive march for Cansu on June 27 in the neighborhood of Dalyan, in Ortaca, where she disappeared.
Yesterday, Cansu's relatives brought her body home. They held a prayer outside the house. She was then buried. Military police have taken testimony from three people, among them Cansu's boyfriend.
