KOBANÊ – Daesh gang members have executed a suicide attack in the Rojava city of Kobanê. There have been deaths reported in the bombing.

According to local sources in the city of Kobanê, today at approximately 5:00 a.m. Daesh executed an attack on Kobanê. The gang members crossed through the Mürşitpınar border gate between Kobanê and Turkey. They apparently detonated a motorcycle loaded down with explosives in the area near the border gate. There are reports of multiple deaths and a large number of wounded in the operation.

The city of Kobanê became famous when YPG/YPJ fighters successfully resisted heavy Daesh attacks on the city. After the liberation of the city center in January 2015 after months of fighting, civilians began returning to the city center in large numbers.

Because YPG/YPJ forces have pushed gangs out of the rural area surrounding Kobanê to the west, east and south, local sources suspect Daesh entered the city from Turkey, which lies to the north, by crossing through the border gate.

In the wake of the bombing, YPG/YPJ fighters started an operation in the city. Clashes are ongoing.
