NEWS CENTER – It has emerged that Muhsin Kızılkaya, a parliamentary representative from Turkey's right-wing party AKP, stabbed his wife in 2002.

Turkey's daily Birgün has uncovered legal records that demonstrate that a politician from Turkey's right-wing AKP has a record of violence against his wife and stabbed her in her belly in 2002.

Muhsin Kızılkaya, now an MP from Mersin province, initially received a monetary fine for the violence. However, several months later, Muhsin and his wife went to court together. There, his wife made a statement saying that she had "wounded herself." As per the law at the time, the fine was canceled.

Feminist lawyer Hülya Gülbahar has called on Muhsin Kızılkaya to publicly apologize and to promise to take action against violence against women.
