Men killed 21 women in Turkey in February

NEWS CENTER – According to news website Bianet, there were 21 femicides in Turkey in the month of June.

The website Bianet monitors news sources in Turkey every month to expose the extent of violence against women in the country. In the first six months of 2015, 141 women were killed, 58 raped, 121 forced into sex work, 193 wounded and 145 harrassed by male attackers. These numbers only include incidents reported to the press.
In June, men killed 21 and raped nine women in Turkey. 78% of the rapists were known to the victim. Around half of all women who were wounded in June were wounded at the hands of their husbands.

16 harrassment incidents were reported in the media in June, including an incident when a suspect in a male violence case harrassed the two women lawyers working on the case and an incident where a police officer sexually harrassed a juvenile girl who had come in to report being harrassed by a truck driver.
