ŞIRNEX - Early this morning, Turkish police assaulted a neighborhood in the Kurdish town of Silopi, killing two.
Initial reports indicate that two civilians have been killed and eight wounded in the Zap neighborhood of Silopi town, located in Şırnak province. Around 4:00 a.m., police blockaded the neighborhood. Because locals had dug trenches in the roads to stop the heavy arrest and police raids of recent days, police were unable to enter the neighborhood. Police opened fire indiscriminately on houses in the neighborhood.
According to first reports, 58-year-old HamdinUlaş and a young person whose name is unknown were slain in the assault. Eight were wounded. Police opened fire on six houses. One has reportedly burned down.
In another incident, there was an explosion in an electrical transformer on the edge of the neighborhood. The explosion started a fire, but there is no information on whether there have been any lives lost in the incident.
