MUŞ - Women's movement activists and family members have filed charges related to Turkish police officers' torture and exhibition of photographs of slain guerrilla Ekin Wan.
On August 10, guerrilla KevserEltürk (nom de guerre Ekin Wan) was killed in the town of Varto, in Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey). Police then dragged her body by a rope and exhibited it in a village square, sharing photographs on social media.
Women's movement activists from the Congress of Free Women (KJA) joined EkinWan's mother, DelalEltürk, to file charges related to the killing in the town of Varto yesterday.
"Ekin was tortured and killed by those who wanted to see war in the mountains where she had gone to struggle for freedom," said KJA President AylaAkat Ata, speaking at the courthouse. "As if this wasn't enough, she was taken into the middle of the street and photographs of her torture were shared. As women, we can't accept this kind of barbarism."
The women promised to follow the case until those responsible are found.
