ANKARA - In Turkey, the group Women's Freedom Assembly has issued a call for women to head to the Kurdish town of Varto tomorrow to protest the torture and exhibition of woman guerrilla EkinWan.
On August 10, guerrilla KevserEltürk (nom de guerre EkinWan) died in a clash near the town of Varto, in Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey). Ekin's body was stripped naked, dragged down the street with a rope and exhibited in photographs shared on social media.
The Women's Freedom Assembly has issued a call for women to converge on the town of Varto, where clashescontinued until Monday, tomorrow. The women noted that with their treatment of EkinWan in Varto, the state demonstrated its misogyny and its commission of war crimes.
"Let us stop any possible massacres. Let us refuse to letpolice, special operations teams, security zones, helicopter sounds and machine gun attacks tear us away from our land. Let us not leave Kurdish women alone in their insecurity and in their resistance," the call said. "Let us bring our women's solidarity, our humanity, our love and our respect to Varto."
